Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade is a refreshingly delicious mixed drink. Even those that aren’t a fan of whiskey will enjoy this delicious low-carb summer cocktail!
Reminiscent of the Lynchburg Lemonade, it’s a must try for hot summer days.
Why we love this cocktail
There’s a restaurant here in town that makes an amazing Blackberry Smash. Whenever I eat there I order one and keep thinking I need to recreate it. Well, I didn’t actually have to because I found a recipe and it was spot-on!
That’s what inspired me to create this blackberry bourbon lemonade. Little did I know this was already an existing cocktail, but the bonus is that mine is low carb!

Ingredients you will need:
I have been trying to cut down on my sugar intake and the carbs that come along with it. I could have used fresh squeezed lemon juice, but that would mean adding sugar or simple syrup. So instead I found a low carb alternative that worked perfectly.

- Use fresh, plump blackberries, frozen blackberries simply won’t do.
- You will need about 6 mint leaves. If you buy them from the produce department, that’s about one stem.
- Use your favorite Bourbon Whiskey. I like Maker’s Mark or Jack Daniels.
- This is the low carb secret. Simply Light Lemonade is sweetened partially by Stevia leaf extract making it much lower in carbs than regular lemonade.
- It’s optional, but I add a splash of Club Soda or diet 7Up just to add a little fizz to the mix. I use diet 7Up because there are 0 calories and 0 carbs!
How to Make Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade
I was surprised by how complicated some of the recipes are out there. You don’t have to cook anything, just muddle some fresh blackberry with mint leaves. Fresh berries are a must! If you see “bring to a boil” in a cocktail recipe, I feel it takes all the fun out of it.
This is not rocket science and shaking up this cocktail shouldn’t be a pain. A couple of minutes should be all it takes before you’re sipping this summer drink on your porch.

- Add 3 blackberries and 5 mint leaves to a cocktail shaker and muddle the ingredients.
- Add the ice. use a jigger to add the bourbon and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
- Fill a rock glass halfway with ice.
- Strain the cocktail shaker over ice in a rock glass. The mint leaves may block the strainer so be sure you shake it all out.
- Pour the lemonade into the glass over the strained mixture.
- Add a splash of Club Soda or diet 7up to fill the glass.
- Garnish the glass with the remaining 2 blackberries and a mint leaf.
One of my favorite parts of this drink are the bits of muddled blackberries floating around in the glass! While I use diet 7Up, you could also top with sparkling water. Your choice.

How would you go about making this for a 2 gallon dispenser? This sounds delish!

Oh you really made me think on this one! I would say you are going to need 4 (59-ounce) bottles of the lemonade and 3 (750-ml) bottles of bourbon. I would say use 2 small containers of blackberries and 3 full sprigs of mint. Buy an extra couple containers of blackberries. After mixing everything, you can always smash up more blackberries and stir them in. :)
