These air fryer chicken kabobs are soaked in a lemon garlic marinade and skewered with bright and colorful veggies. All grilled in the air fryer in less than 10 minutes per batch!
Why this recipe works
Purple onion, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, sweet baby peppers, zucchini, and yellow peppers sliced and grilled with juicy chicken breasts on a skewer. These air fryer chicken kabobs are the perfect party food for when you don’t feel like firing up the grill outside.
Really, what can an air fryer not do? It can bake up desserts (ahem… air fryer brownies), appetizers, breakfast, and full dinners with ease leaving behind beautifully crisp exteriors and deliciously juicy insides and it typically takes less time than the traditional baking, grilling, or cooking methods. There’s nothing not to love about air fryers.

Ingredient Info and Substitution Suggestions
CHICKEN – For 8-10 kabobs, you will need 1 pound of chicken breasts. I prefer boneless skinless chicken breasts. Dice them into 1-inch cubes for skewing.
VEGETABLES – Bright, colorful veggies like purple onion, zucchini, yellow peppers, cherry tomatoes, sweet baby peppers, and mushrooms are the perfect addition to chicken kabobs. We used baby white mushrooms, but you can use the variety you prefer. You could also swap out or add in hot peppers for some heat.

- Dice and chop all ingredients into about 1-inch in size. Keeping them the same size will help everything to cook evenly.
- Add to a large bowl with all of your marinade ingredients. Give a good toss so everything is coated well. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- While marinating, soak your wooden skewers in a water bath. Cut to fit into your air fryer.
- Arrange the ingredients on skewers to your liking, leaving a bit of breathing room between each ingredient on the skewer.
- Work in batches so as not to crowd the air fryer. Air Fry each batch for 6 minutes on 370F.
- Sprinkle with parsley and serve.
Frequently Asked Questions & Expert Tips
Yes, it is safe to use wooden skewers in the air fryer. You will most likely need to trim your wooden skewers or use ones shorter in length, in order to fit them into your air fryer basket. Just as you would soak wooden skewers before grilling, you’ll do the same before air frying to stop them from burning while cooking.
Absolutely. You can substitute or remove any of the vegetables you’d like. Hot peppers would make a good substitute for the sweet baby peppers if you want a little heat. Feel free to substitute the purple onion with white onion if preferred. Yellow squash, green and red bell pepper, and Brussels sprouts are also great options for these chicken kabobs.
If you are unsure whether or not your chicken is cooked through in the air fryer, use an instant read digital thermometer to check the temperature of the chicken. The internal temperature should read 165F.
Store leftover air fryer chicken kabobs in an air-tight container kept in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat for a few minutes in the air fryer.
Serving Suggestions
The best part about these air fryer chicken kabobs is how they seamlessly go with so many side dishes. Rice, corn on the cob, potato salad, macaroni salad, you name it! They also taste delicious atop a leafy green salad.

Outstanding! My air fryer not the most powerful countertop unit so cooked kabobs 375 for 4 mins, flipped and cooked another 4 mins. Chicken was juicy, tender & tasty and veggies were just right. Going to try same technique on beef kabobs. This one is keeper!!

Could you skip the skewers and just toss everything in the air fryer? Would it still take six minutes?
Amanda Davis says
Probably, but check for doneness after 4 minutes to be safe.
Valerie Gillenwater says
