A good grasshopper drink keeps it classy and simple with only 3 ingredients. This dessert cocktail is sweet, creamy, and incredibly smooth overflowing with decadent mint chocolate flavor.
Why this recipe works
The grasshopper drink is a classic after-dinner dessert cocktail packing a sweet, minty punch. It’s smooth and rich with mint chocolate notes throughout. Be careful sipping on this one because it goes down a little too easily!
If you’ve never tried a grasshopper drink before it’s quite similar to a Brandy Alexander with a minty kick thanks to the addition of creme de menthe. This bright green cocktail is popular among those who enjoy a sweet drink as opposed to something with a bite. The cream and liqueur combination makes it taste like a drinkable dessert, almost like a glass of melted mint chocolate ice cream. Swoon.

Ingredient Info and Substitution Suggestions
LIQUEUR – Equal parts of creme de cacao and creme de menthe make up this cocktail. Opt for the green colored creme de menthe as opposed to the clear version to get the bright grasshopper green color. Traditionally, a grasshopper drink uses white creme de cacao so the vibrant color of the green creme de menthe shines through, but you can substitute with the dark version for more of a chocolatey kick.
CREAM – You can use half and half in place of the heavy whipping cream. Milk is too thin to make this drink creamy and rich, but if that’s all you have on hand I would suggest opting for whole milk.

Frequently Asked Questions & Expert Tips
To make a frozen grasshopper drink, simply omit the heavy whipping cream and add in about a cup of vanilla ice cream and a splash of milk along with the two liqueurs. Blitz the ingredients in a blender just until creamy and smooth. Continue to add milk until your desired consistency is reached.
Serving Suggestions
Optionally garnish your grasshopper drink with a chocolate syrup dipped rim rolled in shaved chocolate along with a maraschino cherry and fresh mint leaf. Another fun option is to top with whipped cream.
