Frequently Asked Questions
You can substitute the canned cherry pie filling for drained maraschino cherries or your own homemade cherry pie filling. You can also swap the canned crushed pineapple for fresh-cut pineapple. We have seen the cherry pie filling be substituted with a strawberry pie filling, but have not tried this ourselves.
You can make this cherry fluff low fat by using fat-free sweetened condensed milk, fat-free Cool Whip, and omitting the addition of pecans and shredded coconut. You can also cut back on the sugar a bit by using unsweetened crushed pineapple and sugar-free Cool Whip.
You can store this dessert in a bowl tightly covered with cling wrap in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. We love to use these mixing bowls that come with air-tight lids for storing this dish.
