Deliciously sweet and crisp air fryer apple chips make the best low-calorie snack to munch on. With just 3 ingredients and an air fryer, you’ll have your own homemade apple chips in under 25 minutes!
Why this recipe works
This air fryer apple chips recipe is quick and simple. You can easily dehydrate your apples in the air fryer making a healthy cinnamon coated snack that’s low in calories and great for when you have a sweet craving.
We love experimenting with the air fryer, we’ve even tried air fryer apple fries that were a huge hit! Although they aren’t as low in calories as our apple chips are, using the air fryer always makes a great alternative to deep-frying your favorite foods.

Ingredient Info and Substitution Suggestions
APPLE – Today we’re using Pink Lady apples. We’ve found pink lady apples have a great balance between tart and sweet. Feel free to use Fuji, Honeycrisp, Gala, Granny Smith, Braeburn, or whatever your favorite apple variation is.
SPICES – We’re keeping it simple but oh-so-flavorful with cinnamon and nutmeg. Apple pie spice would also taste delicious on these chips!
How to Make Air Fryer Apple Chips
These step by step photos and instructions are here to help you visualize how to make this recipe. You can Jump to Recipe to get the printable version of this recipe, complete with measurements and instructions at the bottom.
- Using a mandolin, set to 3mm or â…› inch thickness, leaving the skin on, slice the apple starting on the bottom and working your way to the top.
EXPERT TIP – Shake the slices to remove seeds. You will end up with about 20 slices per apple, slightly more or slightly less depending on the size of the apple and how it’s sliced. Please be sure to follow safety guidelines with your mandolin. - Add the slices to a grate-lined air fryer basket. Air fry at 300F for 16-18 minutes. Flip or shake halfway through, then again at the 4-minute mark. The apple slices will start to shrivel up and you will need to separate the ones that start sticking together. After 16 minutes most should be done.
- Remove apple chips and set them onto a cooling rack. They will continue to crisp up as they sit. If any feel damp or still squishy, leave those in the air fryer for another 2 minutes.
- While warm, sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Store in a wide-mouth mason jar or air-tight container. Repeat the process for as many apples as you have. Kids will love snacking on these throughout the day.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can use the apple of your preference. If you like a sweeter taste opt for Gala, Honeycrisp, Fuji, Golden Delicious, Ambrosia, Autumn Glory (with a subtle hint of cinnamon) or Red Delicious. If you prefer a sweet-tart combination, Pink Lady, Granny Smith, and Braeburn are great options.
You can store apple chips in an air tight container to keep them fresh and crisp. We love using a wide mouth mason jar to store ours, but any container that is sealed should work just fine. Keep at room temperature for up to one week.
If your apple chips are burning, try setting your air fryer to a lower temperature. Each air fryer is different from one another which means there may be some trial and error with some air fryer recipes. It’s best to set the air fryer to a lower temp then test a slice or two and see how they come out.
Serving Suggestions
Dust your crunchy air fryer apple chips with cinnamon and nutmeg spices to tie it all together. If preferred, you can leave the apple chips plain or dust them with allspice. Serve warm or at room temperature and enjoy!

Each air fryer is different from one another which means there may be some trial and error with some air fryer recipes. Thanks for the instructions. I’m new to air frying. Can these apple chips be stored in the freezer?
Amanda Davis says
We have not tested that with this recipe. However, should you decide to experiment we would love to hear your results!

If you do not have an air fryer can you use you regular oven and set it at the same temp.?
Amanda Formaro says
Oven directions are very different for these. You would bake at a low temp, like 200 – 225, for one hour, then flip the apple chips and bake for another hour.
