This easy guacamole recipe consists of avocados, red onion, lime, serrano pepper, tomato, and cilantro. The key to a good guacamole is the fresh ingredients that meld together beautifully resulting in a creamy, flavorful, and truly addictive dip perfect for parties.
There are so many ways to serve guacamole. Pair it up with chips and a margarita, use it as a dip for quesados, add a dollop on top of fajitas, or even save this recipe for the next time you plan on making taco dip!

AVOCADO – Picking the right avocado is essential in making good guacamole. You’ll want to nice ripe avocados. They should be firm but also have a little bit of give when squeezed. Squishy avocados are overripe, too firm of avocados are not ripe enough.
VEGETABLES – We’re adding a bit of a kick to this guac by using a serrano pepper. You could swap for jalapeno for a milder approach. We love the flavor and the crunch a red onion adds to this dip, however, using a yellow onion is perfectly fine and tastes just as good! For your tomatoes, reach for Roma. Roma tomatoes are most commonly used in guacamole because they’re less juicy compared to other varieties.
LIME – You’ll want to use freshly squeezed lime for this recipe, not the bottled stuff. Lime helps prevent the avocado from browning while also adding flavor to your guacamole.

- Chop up your onion, chili, cilantro, and tomato. We love using the Vidalia Chop Wizard for chopping vegetables, it makes the process much quicker. Cut the avocados in half.
- In the Molcajete place the avocado halves and begin to mash.
- Add the tomatoes, onion, and cilantro. Mix until combined, but do not over mix.
- Add the chili in little by little, taste to make sure it does not get too spicy.
- Add the salt and pepper to taste.
- Squeeze the lime into the mixture for extra flavor, and to keep it from turning brown too quickly.
- Serve immediately with tortilla chips.

There are a few tricks to keeping guacamole fresh. When storing guacamole, spoon into a container, place plastic wrap directly onto your guacamole, and seal with an air tight lid. Another method is to put the guacamole into a container, flatten with a spoon, and pour about half an inch of water over the top. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. When ready to eat, drain the water from the surface of the guacamole and enjoy.
