This patriotic vodka lemonade slushie is swimming in red, white, and blue layers of raspberry, lemonade, vodka, and blue curacao. The perfect cocktail slushie for your 4th of July or patriotic barbecues and celebrations!
Why this recipe works
This patriotic vodka lemonade slushie brings the festive red, white, and blue colors together in a refreshing cocktail slush blended with raspberry, lemonade, and citrusy blue curacao flavors. This cocktail is layered in a similar fashion to classic patriotic bomb pops!
It’s as easy as blending each layer with ice and lemonade, pouring it into glasses, and sipping at your leisure. Do note that this patriotic vodka lemonade slushie is a blended ice drink, the longer the drink sits, the more the colors will bleed together as it would be with any layered drink. This boozy slushie makes a beautiful patriotic presentation, but won’t last forever!

Ingredient Info and Substitution Suggestions
RED LAYER – Ice, frozen raspberries, lemonade, and vodka. Raspberries let out a decent number of seeds; if you wanted to take the extra step you can pulverize the raspberries in a food processor first, strain out of the seeds, and use the pulp within the recipe. You may also substitute with strawberries or simply use grenadine in this layer.
WHITE LAYER – Ice, lemonade, and vodka. You can swap the lemonade for a lemonade concentrate at a 1:1 ratio for a stronger lemonade flavor but allow it to thaw slightly before using.
BLUE LAYER – Ice, lemonade, and blue curacao. Blue curacao is the star ingredient in almost every bright blue colored drink, like our blue lagoon cocktail or blue Hawaiian mai tai. Blue curacao taste similar to Triple Sec with a bit more of a bite. It’s citrusy and complements the lemonade and raspberry layers in this drink.
How to Make a Patriotic Vodka Lemonade Slushie
These step by step photos and instructions are here to help you visualize how to make this recipe. You can Jump to Recipe to get the printable version of this recipe, complete with measurements and instructions at the bottom.
- Prep enough freezer space for 3 glasses or mason jars to keep each layer cool, for best results.
- For the red layer – In a blender add 1 ½ cups of ice, 1 cup of frozen raspberries, ½ cup lemonade and 2 ounces vodka. Pulse until thick, (ensure it does not start to break down into a liquid); you may need to open it and push it down a couple of times. Pour in a jar or glass and store in the freezer until ready to assemble.
- For the white layer – Wash the blender, and rinse with cold water prior to use. Pulse until crushed, 2 ½ cups of ice, ¼ cup lemonade, 2 ounces vodka, then pour into another container and place in the freezer.
- For the blue layer – Wash the blender again and rinse with cold water. Add 3 cups of ice, ¼ cup lemonade, and 1 ½ ounces of blue curacao, pulse until ice is crushed.
- Assemble drinks by equally by spooning each layer, starting with the red, into the bottom of 3 glasses. Here we are using Poco Grande glasses, which is a traditional Pina Colada glass.
Frequently Asked Questions & Expert Tips
Yes, you can make the individual layers of red, white, and blue ahead of time and store them separately in containers kept in the freezer. Assemble the layers when you are ready to serve. This is a great option if you live in a warm climate where the slush will melt quickly – plus, this way you can prepare a double batch if needed without having to worry about blending and cleaning up while guests are over.
Sure, you can make this slush without alcohol. Simply eliminate the vodka and blue curacao. You can substitute the blue curacao with Powerade Zero Mixed Berry (like we did in our Patriotic Punch – which is kid-friendly by the way), or use Hawaiian Punch blue lagoon for flavor and color.
Serving Suggestions
It goes without saying that these patriotic vodka lemonade slushies are perfect for all patriotic holidays and summer cookouts. Serve chilled immediately after assembling and optionally garnish with a raspberry, lemon wheel, maraschino cherry, or a festive straw. If you’re making them in a warm environment, you may want to allow each separate layer to sit in a freezer until they become fairly firm and quite cold before assembling.
