This Instant Pot asparagus recipe couldn’t be any simpler, yielding ultra-tender spears of asparagus in the snap of a finger!

Why this recipe works
Instant pot asparagus is incredibly easy with just a handful of ingredients (if we’re counting seasonings!). This recipe yields very soft spears of asparagus, which is ideal for cream of asparagus soup, or for those who enjoy their asparagus on the ultra-tender side. Due to the steam and pressure, you won’t achieve the same crispness that you would get from roasted or grilled asparagus.
If you like your asparagus tender-crisp, we don’t recommend using the Instant Pot. While this is a great way for new pressure cooker users to learn how to use their Instant Pot, there are better ways to cook asparagus to get that crisp factor you’re looking for. For those who love softer spears, this is the recipe for you!

Ingredient Info and Substitution Suggestions
ASPARAGUS – Choose bright green asparagus stalks with firm, dry tips. You want the stalks to be of similar widths as much as possible so they cook at the same rate; medium stalks are ideal. Smaller or thin stalks of asparagus are better suited for sauteeing or roasting.
ADDITIONS – Butter is a no-brainer, as well as a dash of garlic salt and black pepper. You can absolutely add garlic or seasonings as you see fit.

Nutrition
The recipes on this blog are tested with a conventional gas oven and gas stovetop. It’s important to note that some ovens, especially as they age, can cook and bake inconsistently. Using an inexpensive oven thermometer can assure you that your oven is truly heating to the proper temperature. If you use a toaster oven or countertop oven, please keep in mind that they may not distribute heat the same as a conventional full sized oven and you may need to adjust your cooking/baking times. In the case of recipes made with a pressure cooker, air fryer, slow cooker, or other appliance, a link to the appliances we use is listed within each respective recipe. For baking recipes where measurements are given by weight, please note that results may not be the same if cups are used instead, and we can’t guarantee success with that method.
