Juicy grilled chicken wedged between a burger bun and your favorite toppings is all it takes to make a classic chicken sandwich!
Why this recipe works
You can’t complicate something that’s this simple. It couldn’t be easier to sprinkle with seasonings, pop on the grill, and devour – that’s one of the main selling points of a good ole grilled chicken sandwich!
This grilled chicken sandwich is a lighter alternative to a crispy chicken burger that’s breaded and fried. The debate on which is better lives on, but in the end it all comes down to personal preference. We love both variations of a chicken burger around here!

Ingredient Info and Substitution Suggestions
CHICKEN – You will need 3 boneless skinless chicken breasts, or 15 ounces, for this recipe. Make sure to trim the breasts of any fatty pieces before seasoning.
SEASONING – Because this sandwich is loaded with toppings we kept it nice and simple with garlic salt, black pepper, and onion powder. However, you can easily substitute with your favorite spice blend. For a spicy grilled chicken sandwich, try it with Cajun seasoning.

Frequently Asked Questions & Expert Tips
Store leftover chicken in an air-tight container kept in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. I would recommend keeping the chicken separate from the toppings and buns when storing.
You can prepare your chicken breasts however you wish whether that be in the oven, in a skillet, on a griddle, or popped on the grill.
Serving Suggestions
Serve your chicken sandwich with a side of french fries, potato chips, coleslaw, baked beans, sweet potato fries, onion rings, or a leafy salad.Â
There are so many different options for toppings. Try the classic tomato, lettuce, and pickle combination or opt for sliced jalapeno, coleslaw, bacon, cheddar or provolone cheese, avocado, or onion. Add either mayo, spicy mayo, buffalo sauce, or barbecue sauce on top and enjoy!
