Notes of vanilla, butter, and caramel from the Schnapps meet smooth and creamy Irish whiskey in this buttery nipple shot. Two ingredients and a sweet tooth are all you need to make this dessert shooter!
Why this recipe works
This buttery nipple shot combines butterscotch Schnapps and Baileys Irish cream to create a fun layered shot that goes down incredibly smooth. This shooter is nice and sweet, making it the perfect dessert shot for parties or after-dinner drinks.
The layered effect is achieved due to the different densities between the two liqueurs – which makes a really fun presentation! Like a little saltiness with your sweets? Use your leftover butterscotch Schnapps to whip up some salted nut roll shots.Â

Ingredient Info and Substitution Suggestions
LIQUEUR – Bailey’s Irish Cream is typically the go-to for a buttery nipple shot, but if you can’t seem to find it you can easily substitute with another brand of Irish cream. This shot works best if both alcohols are of similar temperature. I refrigerate my Irish cream but not my schnapps. So I pour a small amount of Irish cream into a small cup and let it come to room temperature before making these shots.

- If using the optional garnish, add some caramel sauce to one small plate and brown sugar to another plate.
- Dip the rim of the shot glass into the caramel, then dip the rim into the brown sugar.
- Add butterscotch schnapps to the shot glass.
- Hold a spoon backward with the bottom facing upwards at a slight angle just inside the top of the shot glass. The tip of the spoon should be touching the glass just below the rim.
- VERY SLOWLY pour the Irish cream over the back of the spoon. If you pour too quickly, the Irish cream will sink and then rise, causing a spidering effect.
- Optionally garnish with a spritz of whipped cream and a dash of sprinkles.

These are sooooo good. I first had these years ago with just the schnapps and the Bailey’s and they were great. But this recipe really elevates this drink to a higher level.
