Not only is broiled salmon quick and easy, but it’s the best way to get perfectly golden, crispy skin with a delicate flakey interior.
Why this recipe works
Broiled salmon crisps up in 10-13 minutes leaving behind a gorgeous crispy skin that crackles as you cut into it while the interior remains tender and succulent, just the way salmon should be.
So, why broil salmon instead of baking it? Broiling uses top-down heat to cook food and because the salmon is closer to the heat source, it cooks quicker and yields even crispier skin compared to baked salmon. Both baked, roasted, and broiled salmon leave you with flakey, tender filets and the cooking method you use truly comes down to preference.

Ingredient Info and Substitution Suggestions
SALMON – This recipe is for a whole 2 pound center cut salmon filet. You can cut it into smaller filets if you’d like, just keep an eye on them under the broiler. We prefer to cut it into filets after broiling.
MARINADE – We used our salmon marinade, which really locks in flavor after marinating for an hour. It’s a simple mixture of butter, garlic salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, paprika, minced garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil. It also helps tenderize and provide moisture. Instead of our marinade, you can season the salmon however you like. Salt and pepper works great!

Frequently Asked Questions & Expert Tips
To test for doneness, gently press your finger (or the tip of a knife if it’s too hot) onto the top center or thickest part of the salmon – if it begins to flake or separate then it is done cooking. If you overcook the salmon, it will be dry and overly flaky. You may also use an instant read thermometer to check for doneness, salmon is finished when it reaches 125-135F in the thickest part of the filet, this is considered medium.
Store leftovers in an air-tight container kept in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat in a 275F oven for 10-15 minutes or until warmed through.
Serving Suggestions
Serve broiled salmon with roasted red potatoes and roasted asparagus as we did or swap it out with a side of rice, baked potatoes, lemon couscous, broccoli, carrots, or green beans. Enjoy warm.
