Instructions
Preheat the waffle maker in addition to preheating the oven to 250°F.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cake mix, eggs, water, and vegetable oil.
15.25 ounce Funfetti cake mix, 3 eggs, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup vegetable oil
Lightly brush the surface of the waffle maker with vegetable oil (or cooking spray) to prevent sticking. If your waffle maker has a non-stick coating, you do not need to grease it.
Using a measuring cup, spoon the batter into the waffle maker, making sure to spread the batter close to the edges. My waffle maker took ¾ cup of batter.
Cook until the steam has stopped (about 3 minutes, depending on the type of waffle maker you have). Check to see if the waffle is golden in color. If not, continue cooking, checking it every 30 seconds, until the desired color is achieved.
Transfer the cooked waffle to a wire cooling rack and place in the oven to keep warm (and prevent it from getting soggy) while making the remaining waffles.
Serve the waffles with whipped cream, maple syrup, and sprinkles, if desired.
This recipe yields 4 circular belgian waffles, or 8 regular sized square waffles. The amount of waffles you get will depends on the type and size of waffle maker you use. The nutrition calculated below is based upon 1 regular sized waffle.
You can use any flavor of cake mix to make waffles!
If your waffle maker has the function for different heat settings, set it to a higher setting to get nice crispy edges.
This recipe can also be made using a square waffle maker, if that is what you have. Simply follow the rule of filling it only three quarters full.
All waffle makers have slightly different capacities. To avoid the batter from overflowing, it is best to fill the waffle maker about three-quarters full as the batter will expand during cooking.
Place cooked waffles in a single layer on a wire cooling rack to prevent them from getting soggy while the remaining waffles are being made.
