- Kahlua is our personal preference when it comes to Black Russian cocktails, but you can use your favorite coffee liqueur in its place. The main flavor in this drink comes from the Kahlua, so be sure to use a coffee liqueur that you enjoy. Feel free to switch it up and use a flavored Kahlua such as salted caramel, vanilla, or chocolate.
