Fried Asparagus
Dredge, dip, and fry - that's all there is to it! You'll have crispy fried asparagus spears at your fingertips in less than 30 minutes.

Ingredients

asparagus spears
1/2
cup
plain breadcrumbs

teaspoon
salt

Tablespoon
lemon pepper
1
Tablespoon
garlic powder

egg

teaspoons
water
1/2
cup
all purpose flour
vegetable oil
for frying
Instructions
Cut the woody ends off the asparagus spears.
In a medium bowl, combine bread crumbs, salt, lemon pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
In a small bowl, whisk the egg and water.
Set up a dipping station of 3 shallow containers - bread crumb mixture, egg, and flour.
Dredge an asparagus spear in flour, then dip in egg, and roll in bread crumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat for all spears.
Heat enough oil in a large heavy bottomed skillet to come about 1/2-inch up the sides. Oil should reach a temperature of 350 F.
Fry asparagus for approximately 2 minutes per side, or until brown, turning once during the cooking process. Drain on paper towels and serve!
Notes
When choosing asparagus for frying, be sure to get hardy spears. Very thin spears will not hold up well.
Vegetable, canola, or peanut oil can be used to fry the asparagus in. All of which have a neutral flavor profile and high smoke point for frying.
