Heat olive oil in a large heavy bottomed skillet over medium-high heat. Add garlic and saute for 1-2 minutes or until fragrant. Add minced onion and saute an additional 2-3 minutes.
Place ground beef in a large mixing bowl. Empty the contents of the skillet into the ground beef. Use gloved hands to combine the beef and onion mixture.
Separate ground beef mixture into 4 equal pieces. Form into patties.
Preheat air fryer to 370 F for 2 minutes.
Spray air fryer basket with olive oil cooking spray. Place patties into the air fryer basket and season with salt and pepper.
Air fry burgers at 370 F for 6 minutes.
Turn burgers over and season with salt and pepper, then air fryer an additional 6 minutes.
Notes
Check your air fryer user’s manual regarding using cooking spray. We do not use products like Pam cooking spray - only an olive oil spray, as the former can damage the finish.
Optionally add cheese on top of the patties during the last minute of cooking, just enough time to melt the cheese.
We use 85/15 ground beef to make our patties, but you can also use 80/20. Both of which offer deliciously juicy results.
To our ground beef, we'll be adding both minced garlic and minced onion for additional flavor. Sauteeing the onion and garlic before incorporating into the beef will ensure they are fully cooked through. If you don't want to spend the extra few minutes sauteeing the garlic and onion you can opt for their powder variants which can be added along with the salt and pepper.
