In a medium bowl whisk together, eggs, milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar.
Preheat air fryer for 5 minutes at 370 F. Immediately spray basket with cooking spray.TIP: You want the air fryer basket to be hot (hence preheating) when you place the bread in.
Place a slice of bread into the egg mixture and turn to coat both sides. Lift out of the mixture and allow the excess to drip off, then place in hot air fryer basket. Repeat for a second bread slice. You will need to work in batches.TIP: We only cooked two slices at a time because you want there to be room around the slices for the hot air to get around. This ensures the French toast will cook properly.
Air fry at 370 F for 6 minutes. Immediately remove slices from the air fryer as they may stick to the basket if left in too long. Move to a wire rack and cover to keep warm while making the other slices.
Notes
We used Texas toast for our bread. Challah and Brioche are also popular options. You can even use regular white sandwich bread if you prefer. The thicker the slice, the better in our opinion! If you plan on using a thicker cut of bread, you will likely need to air fry for a smidge longer. Use your best judgment and check for doneness at the 6-minute mark.
2% milk does the trick, but you can easily substitute with almond milk.
You can easily slice these into sticks if preferred. Check the sticks closer to 4 minutes in the air fryer, as they are smaller and may cook quicker. Do not crowd the air fryer basket, allow room around each stick for air circulation.
