The grasshopper drink is a classic after-dinner dessert cocktail packing a sweet, minty punch. It's smooth and rich with mint chocolate notes throughout.
Garnishes and decorating the glass are optional. If you would like to skip it, go to step # 2. Place some chocolate syrup on a shallow plate, and some shaved chocolate on another shallow plate. Dip the rim of the martini glass into the chocolate syrup and then into the shaved chocolate. Squeeze chocolate syrup in a circular motion around the inside of the glass.
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice.
Add creme de cacao, creme de menthe, and heavy cream to the ice in the shaker. Place lid on shaker and shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
Strain into decorated martini glass.
Optionally sprinkle shaved chocolate on top of the martini and thread a maraschino cherry onto a cocktail pick, add to the glass.
Notes
Half and half can be substituted for the heavy cream.
Opt for the green colored creme de menthe as opposed to the clear version to get the bright grasshopper green color.
Traditionally, a grasshopper drink uses white creme de cacao so the vibrant color of the green creme de menthe shines through, but you can substitute with the dark version for more of a chocolatey kick.
