Traditional Irish coffee is truly a treat, and very popular on St. Patrick's Day. Enjoy this hot dessert cocktail after a hearty dinner of corned beef!
2ozHeavy cream(1/4 cup) whipped into a loose whipped cream, should be thick but pourable
Instructions
Fill a glass mug with hot tap water to bring the glass to a warmer temperature. Empty the mug.
Pour the hot coffee into the prepared glass mug, should be about 3/4 full.
Stir in the brown sugar until dissolved.
Stir in Irish whiskey.
To keep the cream from combining with the coffee, you need to whisk the cream. It should be thick and frothy, but not so thick that you cannot pour it.
Gently pour the thickened cream over the back of a spoon over the mug. The cream will sit on top of the coffee.
Serve hot.
Notes
To be really traditional, use an Irish coffee glass. An Irish coffee glass is shaped like a brandy or wine glass with a thick stem. Having a thicker stem keeps you from burning your hands on the hot glass vessel.
