Baked Ziti

HOW TO MAKE

Baked Ziti is an easy to make casserole that reminds me of lasagna. Enjoy it with our homemade sauce, or cut prep time down by using your favorite jar of marinara.

WHAT YOU NEED

onion olive oil ground beef garlic & onion powder oregano red pepper flakes tomato sauce whole tomatoes mozzarella & parmesan ricotta ziti noodles

In olive oil saute onion.  Add ground beef, cook until browned. Add in the spices, stir to combine and cook for another minute. Remove from heat.

1

In a saucepan, add the tomato sauce and the whole tomatoes.  Add the cooked ground beef. Bring to a simmer and allow to cook for 20-25 minutes.

2

While the sauce simmers, cook the pasta noodles.  In a large bowl, combine 3 cups of mozzarella cheese, 1 ½ cup of parmesan cheese and ricotta. Add in noodles, stir to combine.

3

In a 9x13 casserole dish, spread 1 cup of the meat mixture in the bottom of the baking dish.

4

Scoop in ½ of the cheese and pasta mixture over the meat sauce.

5

Scoop in ½ of the cheese and pasta mixture over the meat sauce.

6

Scoop in ½ of the cheese and pasta mixture over the meat sauce.

7

Cover with the second ½ of the pasta and the remaining meat sauce.

8

Top with the rest of the mozzarella cheese.

9

Bake for 25 minutes or until the cheese is melted, starting to brown and the sauce is bubbling up on the sides.

10

Baked ziti comes together quickly and is made with common ingredients. It tastes similar to lasagna but without all the fuss.

We used grated parmesan, which is finely ground and weighs differently than shredded parmesan.
