This post brought to you by Mrs. Smith’s. All opinions are 100% mine.
I don’t know about every baker, but many have their unicorn. I’m not saying that pie or pie crust is my unicorn, I can certainly make a pie crust, but it’s one of those things I haven’t quite mastered yet. I’ve made a few successful crusts, but I figure I’ve done it, made it, now I can mark it off my list and decide if making homemade crust is best for me.
So now I usually use a refrigerated or frozen crust when I make a pie. Some occasions have so little time to prepare for, that a frozen pre-made pie is often a wonderful choice.

I decided to give Mrs. Smith’s Signature Deep Dish pies a try. They have 4 different flavors and each one comes with its own sauce topping.
Here are the four that I tried:
- Dutch Apple Pie with Caramel Sauce
- Cherry Pie with Butter Fudge Sauce
- Peach Pie with Cream Cheese Icing
- Pumpkin Pie with Cream Cheese Icing
I haven’t actually baked the apple or the peach yet, but after trying the cherry and the pumpkin I am sure they will be good!
Each pie comes with their own topping packet, which makes it fun to decide how you want to serve your pie.
Here are some ideas:
- Serve plain and place topping in a small dish with a honey drizzled so guests can decide on their own
- Spread topping all over the pie and serve with whipped cream on the side
- Drizzle topping over sliced pie after you plate it
The pumpkin pie I chose to drizzle the cream cheese icing on after I plated it, making for a very pretty piece of dessert.
The cherry on the other hand, I actually broke up the slice in the bowl so it would appear more like a cobbler and drizzled the butter fudge sauce over the top.
Now that you have a few ideas for customizing these delicious pies, maybe you’d like to try one out for yourself?
