Have you ever heard of Mixing Bowl magazine? It’s a Better Homes and Gardens Special Interest Publication and is filled with recipes from the Mixing Bowl website. Last fall I won a Mixing Bowl recipe contest for my 4 Layer Chocolate Dappled Pumpkin Cake. That was LAST fall. Then all of a sudden I started receiving comments on the Mixing Bowl recipe post. Thought it was kind of odd, but thought maybe they had featured it on their homepage or something due to pumpkin season.
Turns out, my cake was highlighted, I mean really highlighted (2 pages!), in Mixing Bowl magazine! The print magazine only comes out 4 times a year and there’s no subscription option. You can only find it on magazine racks at grocery and other stores. Last year I was able to find it, but this year I couldn’t find it ANYwhere. Gah! However, my fabulous bloggy friend, Katrina of Baking and Boys had emailed me and said “Hey, did you know your cake was in Mixing Bowl magazine??” I told her about my frustration in not being able to locate a copy, so she hit the store again, bought one for me and sent it in the mail. So sweet, love ya Katrina!!
It was so fun to see my cake, 2 pictures even, made by the BHG folks and photographed for the mag. What’s even better are the comments I received on the post telling me that people had made it and loved it. One woman even said it was the best cake she’d ever had! The topper is that this was one of my first original recipes, one that I developed on my own. What a great feeling. So I hope you don’t mind me sharing my excitement and tooting my own horn today. Thanks again Katrina for sending me the mag!

Amanda – I have this magazine and love it!!! I've had it sitting for about 2 weeks on my nightstand in the bedroom!!! I just kept browsing through it trying to decide what to bake! Wow….It's great your cake is in it. I will have to try it!!!
