TWD: Espresso Cheesecake Brownies

Everyone knows that I heart Dorie Greenspan. She is fabulous and wonderful and a great baker to boot. ;) She also understands that not everyone is going to be in love with every recipe in her book. While I did like these, I didn’t love them. No one here really did. My daughter had one and liked it, my mother in law and son said they didn’t like the espresso cheesecake portion but did enjoy the brownie, where I thought the brownie was dry and the espresso cheesecake portion had lots of flavor. Hubby didn’t like them at all and two other sons wouldn’t even try. :-p

They didn’t get gobbled up, in fact I had to send the final four down the Insinkerator this morning as they were getting old (I made them on Thursday). Oh, almost forgot to mention that I did make the sour cream topping, but I only had low fat sour cream and the topping just tasted awful with it, so I ended up dumping that. :(
So while I totally love Dorie, her book “Baking From My Home to Yours” and the Tuesdays with Dorie baking group, these just weren’t a favorite. They were lots of people that enjoyed these, so check out what they have to say by visiting the blogs on the right side bar of the TWD group.
If you have this book, you can find the recipe on pages 104 and 105 or simply visit this week’s host, Melissa of Life in a Peanut Shell to see the full recipe.

Sorry to hear that they weren't a hit Amanda. One of the things that I enjoy about this group is that we all have different views on exactly the same recipe. Apple trunoevers next week – they promise to be good!

I understand why this isnt a rowd pleaser. I think that unless you really like coffee, this is not for you. Definitely not young people friendly. I tell you though.. they l;ook great! Yours really look like a brownie, which I would think how it's suppose to look like. Have a great Tuesday!

Don't you hate when you end up tossing things?? I gave most of these away and everyone just loved them. I liked them fine, but I would probably not make them again. Oh well…at least you tried!

I tossed half the pan because I couldn't stand opening the fridge and staring at a failure. You're not alone. On to better delights next week!

Life wouldn't be normal if all the baked goods were our favorties! They look great even if you all didn't care for them much. My favorite part had to be the frosting!

They do look good Amanda. I am a huge fan of coffee but for whatever reason I don't like much flavored with coffee. Go figure…don't know if I would like these either..

Sorry these weren't a winner for you and your fam. I loved them, but my boyfriend wouldn't go near them (he hates cream cheese) The photo look lovely! And I agree, you can't love everything!! :)

We win some and lose some. I am finding that is something I like about this group is that even if I don't like something someone else does. My scrap group liked them but didn't devour them but my work devoured them…different tastes. :)

Amanda! I didn't try these yet! I just finished making them this morning and will try a bite later tonight.

Your brownies are smiling at me though! I still would love to try one!

Despite the fact you didn't like them, they look wonderful.

I didn't care for the topping either and actually scraped it off my piece.

I didn't care for the brownies either–the bad thing (or good for me) about that is I made it three times. I kept hoping it would get better. I thought the brownies were dry, too.
BUT, on the third time I used the KH recipe and they WERE better. I think I just don't love cheesecake and brownies together! Still, glad I tried it.
How would we ever know certain things and learn so much if we didn't try all these recipes in Dorie's great book!

Yep, kinda get that too. i took two batches to my daughter's duplex and a batch to her neighbors – a bunch of guys she attended HS with and now they all go to Mizzou together. I like simple, dark chocolate, ooey gooey w/walnuts kind of brownies. I was thinking about the bits who went down the drain could have found themselves useful in ice cream. Ah well, who eats ice cream anyway? he he

Yours look great, sorry they weren't a favorite in your household. Last week I was lamenting not making a full-size TWD dessert since I liked it so much, but this week I was perfectly fine with a quarter recipe.
