Yesterday my new Dutch Oven arrived from Amazon, yay! I’ve never actually had a real Dutch oven, so I couldn’t wait to try something in it. I chose a recipe from Annie’s called Amish Pot Roast. Now honestly, I am not really sure how “Amish” this really is. I mean, did the Amish really use soy sauce?? Hmmm. At any rate, it’s downright delicious and very easy to put together!
I used a 4.5 pound rump roast for this dish. I did check it about every hour and it was plenty done just under 4 hours. I paired it with some jasmine rice and green beans. I also spooned out most of the onions and the bay leaves from the juice and served that along side the roast for a very delicious meal!

Amish Pot Roast
3-4 lb. beef roast (sirloin tip, rump, English cut)
1 tbsp. oil
1/4 c. soy sauce
1 c. coffee
2 bay leaves
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 tsp. oregano
2 onions, sliced
Sear roast in 1 tablespoon oil on all sides in heavy Dutch oven. Pour sauce over meat. Put half of onions on meat, the other half in sauce. Cover and roast 4-5 hours at 325 degrees.
