This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie was chosen by Amy of Sing for Your Supper. If you would like to make this recipe, you can find it in Dorie Greenspan’s fabulous book Baking From My Home to Yours on pages 342 and 343, or visit Amy’s blog above as she has it posted there.

I love banana cream pie. The standard banana cream pie has a vanilla custard filling with whipped cream on top, though I’ve heard several people say they’ve always had it with a meringue topping. At any rate, banana cream pie is one of my favorites. When I read the ingredients in Dorie’s version I’ll admit I wasn’t totally sure what I would think of it. I have to say that 1) there’s no pie left and 2) I was pleasantly surprised at the wonderful flavor this pie had! It is definitely different than the traditional version as the pastry cream uses brown instead of white sugar and there’s the addition of cinnamon and nutmeg. It smiled like Christmas in my kitchen when I was baking :)

This pie is fabulous, though I put it into a different bracket than your everyday Banana Cream Pie. I think I would call this Banana Holiday Pie or even Brown Sugar Banana Pie. A delicious twist that doesn’t have an overbearing sweetness. Tasty, creamy, smooth, just yum. Came together beautifully without any problems!

Yours turned out great! Mine had issues, you’ll see. lol
It certainly looks good – and judging from the fact that you don’t have any leftovers, I’d say it was a success!
But brown sugar pie does sound much better!
That is quite different from the normal isn’t it. It sounds and looks wonderful!!
